The Stroke Center at Crouse Hospital features an acute multidisciplinary stroke care team headed by Sami Abdul-Malak, MD. Our team takes charge of the care of the patient experiencing a stroke from the moment of arrival in the Emergency Department, to our New York State Department of Health-designated stroke unit (including the Intensive Care Unit) right on through to discharge. State-of-the-art neurodiagnostics and a full continuum of rehabilitation services are provided, as well as appropriate follow-up after leaving the hospital.
Crouse Hospital also provides periodic stroke screenings and information programs for the public. Through community health events, educational information and other forums, we help people recognize stroke symptoms and the need for immediate medical attention. We work closely with Emergency Medical Services in our community to provide educational services and support ongoing communication to enhance the teamwork in caring for stroke and all patients served at our hospital.
